Retro angel skin coral and diamond oval cluster earrings

A pair of Retro angel skin coral and diamond oval cluster earrings, centered by cabochon coral set in a two-tiered diamond surround with a scalloped border, with clip backs, in 14k. Marked Pat. 2432904 for George Schuler.

George Schuler, Jr. was an American jewelry designer and inventor best known for holding U.S. Patent No. 2423905, granted in 1947, for an improved clip-style earring back. His design offered a more secure and comfortable fit and became widely adopted in mid-20th-century fine jewelry.

Schuler’s work was incorporated into pieces produced for prominent luxury houses, including Cartier, Tiffany & Co., and other high-end retailers. His patented earring back helped standardize the elegant clip-on style seen in many vintage earrings from the 1940s and 1950s, and his name is sometimes associated with jewelry created for these prestigious firms.

Though not a household name, Schuler played an important behind-the-scenes role in the development of modern fine jewelry craftsmanship, contributing to designs worn and sold by some of the most respected jewelers of his era.
