Pair of superb antique bird brooches

A superb antique brooch in the form of a pair of birds of paradise with diamond bodies and emerald, sapphire and ruby plumage and joined by a pearl at their beaks. The birds separate to form two separate brooches, in 18k gold. Atw. 5.50 ct. (average clarity VS; average color H-I (varied) full cut diamonds in silver-topped gold mountings. There is very little silver: only as tips on the gold mountings on the diamonds. Rubies approx. 9.30 ct. tw.; Sapphires approx. 2.48 ct. tw.; Emeralds approx. 1.94 ct. tw. Natural pearl 3.8mm. Original box with concealed compartment underneath containing brooch fittings. Drawings from a London workshop who produced mainly for the Goldsmiths Co.
