Angela Cummings carnelian knot bracelet
Angela Cummings carnelian knot bracelet
A gold and carved carnelian bracelet of knotted design, in 18k. Angela Cummings
Carnelian has been prized since antiquity, appearing in jewelry from ancient Egypt through the Renaissance and beyond. In this bracelet, Angela Cummings reinterprets the age-old material in a modern manner, allowing the sculptural and luminous qualities of the carnelian to become the focal point. The gold framework provides both structure and visual contrast, successfully creating the illusion of an unbroken strand of carnelian twisted into knotted forms.
Among the most celebrated jewelry designers of the late twentieth century, Angela Cummings became renowned for transforming natural forms and sculptural motifs into sophisticated wearable art. Having studied goldsmithing and gemology in Germany and Italy, she joined Tiffany & Co. in 1967, becoming one of the first named designers to launch a signature collection there in 1974. Throughout the 70s and 80s, she developed a design language characterized by bold silhouettes, vibrant hardstones, and a sensitivity to color and texture. In 1984, she established her own business, Angela Cummings Inc., opening a landmark boutique at Bergdorf Goodman and expanding her designs to include silver, tableware, and accessories.
