Founded in Paris in 1837 by Thierry Hermès, Hermès began as a premier saddlery workshop crafting high-quality harnesses and bridles for the European nobility. The maison moved to its landmark address at 24 Faubourg Saint-Honore in 1880 and eventually expanded its expertise in leatherwork and craftsmanship into luxury accessories, luggage, and fashion. In 1927, Hermès introduced its first jewelry piece, the Filet de selle bracelet. What followed was a rich tradition of jewelry design rooted in Hermès’ enduring fascination with equestrian and nautical motifs, many of which have become among the most collectible creations of the twentieth century.

Drawing on its rich equestrian heritage, Hermès developed a distinct jewelry vocabulary featuring motifs such as bits, stirrups, and buckles. Iconic collections include the Chaine d'ancre, designed by Robert Dumas in 1938 and inspired by a ship's anchor chain, and the Collier de chien, which evolved from a 1923 dog collar design into a celebrated bracelet. Under the creative direction of Pierre Hardy since 2001, the maison has expanded into Haute Bijouterie, combining its traditional goldsmithing and enamel techniques with contemporary designs and rare gemstones.
