Cristofol Paris Art Moderne amethyst and gold cocktail ring

An Art Moderne gold and amethyst "bishops" ring of impressive scale, centered by a large step-cut amethyst, in a pierced and split geometric mount featuring two fleur-de-lis on each shoulder, in 18k and platinum. Maker's mark for Cristofol Freres, Paris. #3688.

For nearly two centuries, the name Cristofol—historically Cristofol Frères—has been synonymous with the quiet excellence of the Parisian atelier. Founded in 1830 by the master jeweler Charles Christofle, the house predates his later fame in silverware, remaining a dedicated sanctuary for Haute Joaillerie. While many recognize the name through its industrial associations, the Cristofol workshop established itself as the "jeweler's jeweler," operating with a level of discretion and technical mastery that made them the indispensable partners to the great houses of the Place Vendôme.

During the first half of the 20th century, Cristofol was the unseen hand behind some of the era's most ambitious jewelry and objets d’art. Their craftsmen were instrumental in realizing the complex visions of Cartier, most notably their legendary Mystery Clocks, as well as the bold, geometric masterpieces of Van Cleef & Arpels and Boucheron. From the vibrant "Tutti Frutti" settings of the Art Deco period to the refined elegance of Mauboussin, Ostertag, and Tiffany & Co., Cristofol’s mastery of platinum and gemstone setting defined the standard for French jewelry at its zenith.
