Cartier, Art Deco arrow jabot brooch
Cartier, Art Deco arrow jabot brooch
An Art Deco diamond jabot brooch in the form of an arrow, in platinum and 18k. Cartier, #1420. Accompanied by the original box. Atw diamonds 0.76 ct
The jabot pin began as a functional fastener, used to secure lace jabots or cravats. By the late 19th-century, however, it had evolved beyond utility into a decorative jewel worn at the collar, bodice, lapel, hat, or within the folds of fabric. In the 1920s, the form lent itself naturally to Art Deco design, with its emphasis on geometry, contrast, and concentrated visual impact.
An elegant example of Cartier's Art Deco design, this diamond jabot brooch takes the form of a slender arrow, its elongated platinum shaft terminating in a finely articulated arrowhead and feathered fletching. The arrowhead is outlined with delicate rows of diamonds, while the fletching is rendered in a geometric arrangement of graduated, diamond-set feathers.
