Art Deco Cartier diamond bypass ring
Art Deco Cartier diamond bypass ring
An Art Deco diamond and platinum ring of tapered bypass design, the larger, oblong end centering three, graduated Old-European-Cut diamonds in a diamond surround, the smaller end terminating in a row of prong-set diamonds. Monture Cartier. #50-20513. Atw diamonds 1.58 cts (S1-I1, F/G), center stone 0.6 ct (I1, G)
This Cartier construction is distinguished by its sculptural bypass design, in which two diamond-set terminals sweep gracefully past one another. The larger, oblong terminal centers three graduated Old European-cut diamonds, framed by a surround of smaller diamonds that accentuates its rounded silhouette. Opposite, a slender, tapering row of diamonds curves around the finger, completing the graceful composition. The elevation of the larger terminal and the overall asymmetry lend the ring a sense of movement, as though the platinum band were actively encircling the finger. Combining the romantic character of Old European-cut diamonds with the bold, sculptural qualities of Art Deco design, the ring feels at once elegant and dynamic.
