Born in Austria in 1944 and raised in the United States, Angela Cummings is a celebrated jewelry designer known for her sculptural, nature-inspired aesthetic. After studying goldsmithing and gemology in Germany and Italy, she joined Tiffany & Co. in 1967, becoming one of the first named designers to launch a signature collection there in 1974. Her work for the maison is distinguished by fluid organic forms and a mastery of the damascene technique, frequently featuring 18K gold inlaid with mother-of-pearl, lapis lazuli, jade, and coral. Drawing inspiration from the natural world—such as sea shells, dragonflies, and rose petals—her designs for Tiffany remain highly collectible for their lyrical elegance and technical mastery.
Throughout the 70s and 80s, she developed a design language characterized by bold silhouettes, vibrant hardstones, and a sensitivity to color and texture. In 1984, she established her own business, Angela Cummings Inc., opening a landmark boutique at Bergdorf Goodman and expanding her designs to include silver, tableware, and accessories.
