A gold kinetic ring designed as a wide band suspending an oversized ring pendant, in 18k. Dinh Van for Cartier

French designer Jean Dinh Van was born in 1927 to a Vietnamese father and French mother, and he was destined to revolutionize French jewelry. He first studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts and then spent a decade as a designer for Cartier, where he became a standout talent in the 50s and 60s, designing for royalty, including the Duchess of Windsor. A true visionary, he left the house in 1965 and founded his atelier in Place Gaillon in Paris. Collaborations with various firms, including Cartier, followed while he pursued his artistic freedom and produced his own designs. His pieces were bold and sleek, with a focus on purity of form and minimalism that forever changed the jewelry landscape. His name and style live on following the 1998 purchase of his company and rights to his name.
