Moonstone is part of the feldspar group of gemstones which also includes amazonite, sunstone, and labradorite. Its most captivating feature is a phenomenon called adularescence where light billows across the surface of the gem and moves along with the gemstone as it is moved back and forth. The term comes from an old name for moonstone - “adularia” - which originated from the town of Mt. Adular in Switzerland, one of the first sources of high quality moonstones.
