Ghiso Art Deco amazonite, onyx, and gold bracelet
Ghiso Art Deco amazonite, onyx, and gold bracelet
An Art Deco bracelet comprised of alternating rectangular onyx and gold links framing sugar loaf amazonites, in 18k. Ghiso, Paris.
Sugarloaf cabochons are a wonderful variation on the traditional cabochon shape, rarer and often highly desirable. A sugarloaf, like all cabochons, has a smooth, polished surface and no facets, utilizing some of the most ancient cutting techniques. Sugarloaf cabochons have a four-sided, domed pyramidal shape, which optimizes the natural colors of a variety of colored stones.
The stone cut is presumably named after the form in which refined sugar was usually produced and sold until the mid-19th century when it became available in cubes and granulated form.
